In short

Who we are

FaiSnap is a macOS app made by Faisal Islam ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy or your data: faisal.islam70@gmail.com.

What stays on your Mac

Every capture, its versions (your annotations, crops and backgrounds), the text recognized in it and your settings are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/FaiSnap on your Mac. Full-size images are kept for the period you choose in Settings (30 days by default); smaller previews are kept longer. Images you save as PNG go to the folder you choose.

These features run entirely on your Mac and send nothing anywhere:

When information leaves your Mac

Sharing a link

To create a link, the capture is uploaded to FaiSnap Cloud: the original screenshot, the versions you saved (their annotations, crop and background) and images of the version the link shows. If you aren't signed in, the app creates an anonymous account on your Mac to own the upload. A link can show the latest version or a fixed one, can need a password (we store only a hash of it) and can expire.

Backup (optional, with a Google account)

If you sign in with Google and allow backup, FaiSnap uploads your captures with:

You can keep any capture "Only on this Mac", and turn backup off in Settings.

Google sign-in

Signing in with Google gives us your name, email address and Google account ID (the openid, email and profile permissions). We use them only to identify your account. We don't receive your Google password and we can't access your Gmail, Drive or any other Google data.

FaiSnap's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

When someone opens your link

We record the time, the browser, the operating system and, when available, the country. We don't record the viewer's IP address. You see these in the capture's Activity.

Data is sent over HTTPS. Access rules in the database let each account read only its own captures; a link shows only what it was created for.

Who can see your captures

We don't sell or rent your information, we don't show ads, we use no third-party analytics or tracking, and we don't use your screenshots to train AI models.

Keeping and deleting

A capture's activity record (its title, when versions were saved and when links were opened) stays with your account after the capture is deleted, so you can still see what happened to it. It is deleted with your account.

Children

FaiSnap isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for important changes tell you in the app before they take effect.
